Sally is the 2017 recipient of the Scottish Book Trust’s New Writers Award for narrative non-fiction. She is working on a book that will centre on Shetland, where she has lived since 2011.
Her background is in nature conservation and her PhD combined ecology and anthropology to research the connections between low-intensity agricultural practices and butterflies in Carpathian hay meadows. Sally’s writing can be found in?Earth Lines, Zoomorphic, The Island Review, Caught by the River,?Shetland Life and Archipelago.
Sally has also contributed an essay to the forthcoming anthology of contemporary Scottish writing on nature and landscape, Antlers of Water, edited by Kathleen Jamie.
